OUR STORY

Although the doors to the Mansion Hotel & Spa at Werribee Park were only opened in June 2000, the Hotel is steeped in history.

Formerly St Joseph’s Seminary and created by the Corpus Christi College in 1926, the hotel used to house and educate thousands of young men who were in training for priesthood from the late 1920s to the 1970s.

Around 1972, the College started to defer students to a new campus on the other side of Melbourne and they closed its doors at Werribee Park, selling the facility to the Victorian Government. The seminary lay desolate and derelict for almost 30 years until Melbourne architects, Wood Marsh transformed it into the award-winning boutique hotel that it is today.

The seminary’s period features have all been retained and one can almost feel the days gone by with the quaint heritage rooms that were once occupied by three and four students; The Library which formed part of the chapel; and the original stained glass windows, archways and doorframes.

The 51 Classic rooms have been transformed to precise proportions that provide an environment that is simple and free of clutter. Strict heritage guidelines prevented the size and structure from changing and a strong emphasis was placed on retaining the heritage and its links with tradition.

In its relatively short life, The Mansion Hotel has been recognised as one of Victoria’s best deluxe hotels and was inducted into the Victorian Tourism Award’s prestigious Hall of Fame in 2004 for its services and contribution to tourism.

2010 has seen a change of Master at the Mansion as The Lancemore Group moved in at the beginning of June. Please take the time to enjoy the history of days gone by, together with the comforts of today, and be sure to have a wonderful stay with us.
