ART & SOUL

One of the features of The Mansion is its outstanding collection of Art.

The grounds of Werribee Park are famous not only for their size and unique grandeur but also house the prize winners of one of Australia's major acquisitive Sculpture Awards, the Helen Lempriere Award. The Sculpture Walk forms a Victoria sculpture gallery providing a stimulating and provocative view of the many winners.

Within the hotel, the Mansion's unique Victoria art gallery collection adorns both the public areas and individual bedrooms. The collection has been put together over a 15 year period with individual works either personally purchased by the owners, well known art collectors themselves, or they are recommendations of major Melbourne commercial Galleries.

One of the interesting aspects of the collection is the large number of works by significant Indigenous artists, a point of particular interest with the Hotel's international guests.

The works by contemporary Australian artists include paintings by Gunter Christman, Angela Brennan, Ken Whisson, John Olsen, Melinda Harper, Rick Amor and Steig Persson to name a few.

Sculptures by leading Zimbabwe artists are to be found in Suites, level 2 rooms as well as in the Library, Snooker Room and public areas.

Works of this quality and with such significant value provide a special treat for guests and along with the leading edge architecture of Woods Marsh make The Mansion a feast for lovers and connoisseurs of beauty.

As befits its history, the hotel has an interesting series of photographs giving glimpses of its former life as a Jesuit Seminary.
